Having designed and crafted spiritboards throughout the past few years, I realized I needed a new creative outlet. Tired of using text only to spell out the alphabet, this project gave me a greater opportunity for creative design, and for creating a unique narrative.
This faux vintage sign gives us a glimpse of the old snake oil peddler, and his quack remedies. The subject matter allowed me to works with various alchemical illustrations that I have admired and longed to transfigure. Additionally, the time period permitted me to utilize script that I have adored, reminiscent of Victorian and Wild West aesthetics.
This is the sort of thing I would love to find in the back corner of an antique store, but since I never have, I was inspired to create this myself.
